Advanced Composite Materials: A Panacea for Improved Electricity Transmission

چکیده

The demand for electricity has increased drastically due to population explosion globally. Unfortunately, supply does not meet the demand. Consequently, transmission grid becomes overloaded, culminating in frequent power outages. Worse still, lacks adequate maintenance, and this led energy crisis Africa some parts of Asia. In review, studies on strength weaknesses existing conductors were conducted. Further studied natural artificial phenomena that attack overhead networks. It was observed besides inherent conductor defects, overloading, bush fire, short-circuit, harsh weather, lightning factors ravage grid. Hence, there is need develop more robust materials can withstand these challenges. conventional such as all aluminum (AAC) steel reinforced (ACSR) are challenged by low operating temperatures, among others. High-temperature low-sag (HTLS) invented tackle shortcomings certainly have higher ampacity better thermal rating than conductors. However, challenges still devastate them. So, from study conducted, it discovered developing advanced nano-based Al-composite would help ameliorating prevalent Such an Al-nanocomposite possess stability be durable cost effective.

NASA Thermographic Inspection of Advanced Composite Materials

As the use of advanced composite materials continues to increase in the aerospace community, the need for a quantitative, rapid, in situ inspection technology has become a critical concern throughout the industry. In many applications it is necessary to monitor changes in these materials over an extended period of time to determine the effects of various load conditions. Additionally, the detec...

Advanced AE Techniques in Composite Materials Research

Advanced, waveform based acoustic emission (AE) techniques have been successfully used to evaluate damage mechanisms in laboratory testing of composite coupons. An example is presented in which the initiation of transverse matrix cracking was monitored. In these tests, broad band, high fidelity acoustic sensors were used to detect signals which were then digitized and stored for analysis. Analy...

A directional-based branches current method for transmission loss allocation in the pool-based electricity market

This paper proposes a new method for transmission loss allocation. The share of each bus in the transmission line losses is determined using transmission line loss equations with respect to bus-injected currents. Then, it is applied to the total network transmission lines. In the proposed method, comparing with other methods, a solution to remove the negative loss allocation has been introd...
